What Happened to Severn Mortgage?

You've heard of the song, "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly"? Well, that's how the mortgage business has been lately. But it's not all been bad or ugly. Change can be good. And that's what's happened with Severn.

In light of the changes that have happened (and are still) coming in the mortgage industry, we started looking at options in the summer of 2009 to determine what will best allow us to continue to serve our clients.

After considering several alternatives (about fifty different companies), the team chose to join a locally-based mortgage banker with the resources to handle the on-going change in the mortgage industry.

In October 2009, we opened a local branch of WestStar Mortgage (WSM), a direct lender based in Woodbridge. Licensed in 26 states, with more than 80 offices in the eastern and central US, WSM generated more than $700 million dollars in mortgages in CY2009.

While still serving Loudoun County, Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth, we can now draw on the strengths of a company with millions in assets and direct lending relationships with Fannie Mae, Ginnie Mae and several large investors. Even better, WSM offers brokering options for those clients best served by a unique product. Best of all, WestStar does everything - processing, underwriting, closing prep and funding - in one location (the corporate office in Woodbridge), making for a very customer-oriented, focused and effective method of delivering an excellent mortgage experience to our clients.
